Firebrick
The FireBrick range of firewall appliances have been developed as a joint venture between Watchfront Ltd. and Andrews & Arnold Ltd.
The SoHo and Plus models have been on the market for several years, and have built a reputation for innovation, ease-of-use, and reliability.
The FireBrick 105 builds on our experience with the SoHo and Plus models, improving on them where possible and adding some exciting new features.
Whether you have one PC or 500 PCs, and whether you have a 64Kb/s leased line or an 8Mb/s ADSL link, the FireBrick fits the bill. There are no ongoing charges, per-user licences or fees for software upgrades.
Please note that with the introduction of the FireBrick 105, we will continue to support the SoHo and Plus models, providing free software upgrades and technical support.
What is a firewall?
Put simply, a firewall protects your computer or network from unauthorised access or attack via the internet. It can allow the traffic you want, while filtering out the traffic you don't want. Firewall appliances should not be confused with software or 'personal' firewalls - programs that run on the computer you are trying to protect.
FireBrick firewalls use bespoke hardware, with no moving parts, for robustness and reliability. By writing our own operating system and stack, we avoid the inherent faults and weaknesses of generic operating systems such as Linux, MacOS, and Windows. We can also ensure the FireBrick is secure right out of the box.
More than a firewall...
Since the launch of the first FireBrick, we have been continuously adding features. Initially this lead to the split between the SoHo and the Plus, and more recently it lead to the idea of optional features on the FireBrick 105, so as to provide a more flexible pricing structure.
Network requirements are growing all the time. Whether you need multiple DMZs for servers, VLANs for complex networks, VPNs for satellite offices, traffic shaping for shared and priority services, multiple gateway traffic bonding, or simply more bandwidth, you should find a FireBrick model to suit.
